Second Baptist Church, downtown Little Rock, is hosting the award-winning Nashville gospel group, Legacy Five, for a concert on Mother's Day evening, May 11, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. benefiting Habitat for Humanity. General admission is $15.00.
In 2004, Legacy Five all but swept the Singing News Fan Awards that year, winning Favorite Group, as well as Favorite Pianist, Favorite Baritone and Favorite Bass. Newcomer to the group, Frank Seamans, was voted the Horizon Individual for 2005, and the group was nominated in several categories for 2006. In 2007, the group was once again nominated for several awards at the National Quartet Convention, with Legacy Five’s Scott Fowler voted as Favorite Lead Singer, and Legacy’s Glenn Dustin garnering the Favorite Bass Singer award for the second time.
Second Baptist Church is in the process of building on its parking lot a home for Shannon, a mother of one-year old son, Chandler, and newly born daughter, Kayden. Shannon has been working two jobs, and as a Habitat Partner, she has put in more than 200 hours of "sweat equity" on other Habitat projects toward her own home. Expected completion of the lot-build is Mother's Day weekend, after which the home will be moved to a residential lot for final completion.
Habitat for Humanity offers deserving partners decent, affordable housing, fostering home ownership for less fortunate people. Habitat is a great program because it is not a handout, it is a hand up. Homeowners are provided an interest-free mortgage to cover the actual costs of the build, with their payments recycling into future home builds. Through such a system, donations to Habitat continue to give and give.
To help make possible the celebration of the lot-build of Shannon's home on Mother's Day, fans of Southern Gospel Music are invited to attend this energizing and uplifting benefit concert by Legacy Five, and are encouraged to bring mothers to this event. Corporate purchasers, as well as individuals, are encouraged to donate back a few tickets which will be pooled to make possible a Mother's Day gift to residents of the area's assisted-living centers who would like to attend this celebration.
Tickets should be reserved early. For more information or for tickets, contact the office of Second Baptist Church at 501-374-9284.
